Position Summary:

The Purchasing Assistant will coordinate the purchasing and movement of materials between vendors and Johnny's. The Purchasing Assistant will be responsible for communicating with vendors and shipping companies to ensure that all critical deliveries arrive on time. The Purchasing Assistant will also provide back up to the Buyers.

Responsibilities

• Purchases materials or other goods and or coordinates activities involved with procuring goods, such as raw and enhanced seed, tools, and supplies, general supplies.
• Assists with quotes, orders, special orders, and delivery.
• Expedite and reschedule product as demand changes.
• Communicates delays and/or backorders to appropriate stakeholders.
• Assists in maintaining accuracy of purchasing data.
• Ability to prioritize requirements and multitask to meet required deadlines.
• Perform administration of purchase orders.
• Works under general direction, participates in setting assignment objectives; plans own task schedule to satisfy objectives; work is reviewed for adequacy on completion.
• Represents the Johnny's organization with Vendors.
• Communicates with the Purchasing Assistant Manager when issues arise which may prevent timely delivery or procurement of seed.
• Provide backup assistance to the Buyers.
• Work with receiving and supplier for receiving discrepancies.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, sustainable agriculture, related science field or 1–2 years hands-on farm work experience.

You Have:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required
• Business experience preferred

Qualifications & Skills:

• Ability to communicate efficiently with Purchasing Assistant Manager.
• Ability to function with minimal supervision.
• Proactive, able to multitask, organized, detail oriented.
• Outgoing and personable; skilled at interacting with Vendors, Sales Professionals, and related departmental personnel.
• Proficient in computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite applications, Excel, and Outlook.
• Proficiency and experience in the formation and administration of purchase orders.
• Knowledge of basic procurement strategy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
