Produces some of the earliest greens of spring and the latest of fall. The tender, fresh green leaves can grow to about 8" long and have an intense lemony flavor. Sorrel is a hardy perennial that can also be grown as an annual. TRANSPLANTING: Start indoors in cell-type containers sowing 2-3 seeds/cell and covering with 1/4" of soil.DIRECT SEEDING:
Sow in fertile soil from midspring through midsummer. For baby leaf: Sow 3-5 seeds/in. in rows at least 2" apart. Cut entire plant above the basal plate when 3-6" tall. For bunching: Plant seeds 1" apart, 1/4" deep, and thin to 8" apart in rows 12-18" apart. Planting in light shade and keeping the seed stalks cut increases summer quality, but a good crop will re-grow in fall even if plants bolt. Harvest side leaves until plants become well established; later, plants can be cut completely, right above the crown. Plants spread and can be divided.DAYS TO MATURITY:
