CULTURE:

Sow from early spring through midsummer. In the South, pac choi is well adapted for fall plantings. Suitable for fall sowing in mild climates or in a high tunnel or other protected structure in colder climates. Premature bolting of seedlings may occur if temperatures drop below 50°F (10°C), especially over multiple nights. Cold temperatures generally do not cause bolting of plants past the seedling stage.

DAYS TO MATURITY:

From emergence after direct seeding.

TRANSPLANTING:

Start seeds in 128 or 72-cell trays, 2–4 weeks before transplanting. Plant out before seedlings become rootbound or stressed to prevent premature bolting.

DIRECT SEEDING:

Sow 15 seeds/ft., 1/4" deep in rows 12-18" apart. Thin plants as recommended in our Pac Choi Comparison Chart. For baby-leaf production of 'Rosie', the only pac choi we recommend for baby leaf, see the Baby-Leaf Brassica Greens culture.

AVG. DIRECT SEEDING RATE:

For bunching: 830'/oz., 13,000'/lb. at above spacing.

INSECT PESTS:

Flea beetles can be controlled by covering with floating row covers from day of sowing.

HARVEST:

Harvest before flowering.

SEEDS/OZ. (AVG.):

10,300.

PACKET:

250 seeds. Full size: sows 16'; Baby leaf: sows 4'.
