'Black Bear' Mini Pumpkin bred by Johnny's
This is our new miniature black pumpkin, 'Black Bear'.
'Black Bear' is a really exciting new introduction for us. It was developed by Aneta Jacobs, who was a breeding technician at Johnny's. She had a vision for a black pumpkin that stays a very, very dark green, instead of turning orange like a normal pumpkin. We were also really careful to select for a true mini pumpkin shape, as you can see.
We'd like to thank the University of New Hampshire for their support in some of the genetics used in this variety.
'Black Bear’s' plants have a compact plant habit and have high yields of very uniform fruit. They have early maturity and the plants have intermediate resistance to powdery mildew.
These fruits are about 1 to 1 and a half pounds and provide a great contrast to traditional orange pumpkins.
We think 'Black Bear' can be a great addition to your fall displays, and we hope you give it a try.
