Orach (Mountain Spinach) - Key Growing Information

A row of orach; this plant can be pinched back to encourage production and retard bolting; delicious in salads.

SCIENTIFIC NAME:

Atriplex hortensis

CULTURE:

Orach does well in any well-drained garden soil. Tolerant of both hot and cold weather, it is best planted early spring through midsummer. Sow seeds 1-2" apart, covering 1/4", in rows spaced 18-30" apart. Thin to 6-10" apart.

DISEASES AND PESTS:

Prevent disease with crop rotation and sanitation.

HARVEST:

Pick leaves when plants reach 1' tall, or more. The plants will continue to produce young, edible leaves.
