Sunflowers

'Desert Sun' | Branching Sunflower Variety

This is 'Desert Sun'. This is a branching pollenless sunflower with bicolor blooms that are about 5 to 7 inches wide.

These plants were pinched at an early growth stage and we've had a very cool and cloudy summer, so the plants are a little bit taller than we would normally expect. One of the things we really like about this variety are the exceptionally straight, strong stems, and the way the blooms are firmly held on those stems. This is pretty exceptional for branching sunflower to have this high quality, straight, strong, strong stem.

We have Desert Sun planted right beside 'Strawberry Blonde' as a comparison. A couple of things that are different about these two varieties: Desert Sun is a little bit later to bloom and has a more vibrant bicolor bloom. Strawberry blond is earlier and has a little bit more of a muted color range, more in sort of a plum and cream palette.
