Violas, which include the group commonly known as pansies, are widely used in flower beds, containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets—especially during the cooler months, though some will bloom all season long. Not only do violas make a good bedding plant, the blossoms are edible—their delicate, wintergreen flavor is wonderful when used as a colorful garnish on salads and desserts. Annual varieties are available in a striking range of colors from pastel and rose to cream, purple, plum, and gold. Many of these annual varieties perform well when overwintered, demonstrating long stems excellent for spring bouquets. Of course, we also offer the perennial variety—the true Johnny-Jump-Up, a naturalizing plant that attracts and sustains beneficial insects.
