Specialty Cut-Flower Varieties

Johnny’s Research Team specifically trials and selects our tall sunflower varieties (single-stem and branching) for their performance as cut flowers. We offer a large selection of single-stem, pollenless varieties; these produce uniform blooms on a predictable schedule, lending themselves well to succession planting. For growers looking for cut-and-come-again options, we offer a large selection of branching sunflower varieties in a variety of bloom sizes and colors.

In addition to our cut-flower varieties, we offer a lovely selection of dwarf sunflower varieties great for container production.

Choosing among the Types

For a primer on branching vs. single stem, pollenless vs. pollen, and some variety recommendations within each category, read our article on Choosing Sunflower Varieties.

Unique Varieties

If you are looking to add diversity to your cutting garden, there are several especially novel varieties to call out: these include the SunFill™ Series, with its attractive and unusual ornamental sepals; many unusual color options such as chocolate and wine, pastels, and bicolors; and semidouble and fully double blooms.

Not sure where to start?

We recommend Johnny’s Sunflower Collection or ‘Summer Breeze Mix’ – both are an excellent choice for an easy-to-grow selection of vibrant blooms for the home cutting garden.
